2020: Election of NPP PCs must not be chaotic – Akufo Addo

President Akufo-Addo has called on members of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) to ensure that the election of the party’s parliamentary candidates for the upcoming 2020 election is done in a sensible, peaceful and serene manner.

According to him, as the party in power, the whole country will be looking at the NPP when it goes to the polls in April 2020 to see how it will acquit itself in the election process.

“We are the party in government and we shouldn’t go and do this exercise with a lot of fighting and backbiting which is unnecessary. It is the victory of the party that matters it is not the victory of any individual and I want all of us to bear that in mind. Without the victory of the party, we wouldn’t be sitting here as we are doing today. We all should remember that the party is bigger than any single one of us including myself,” President Akufo Addo said while addressing the NPP’s annual delegates conference at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra on Sunday.

He added: This party is over 70 years old and we’ve been through a lot. Went through the difficulty during the First Republic, moved through coups but each time we’ve come out stronger and today we as strong as we’ve ever been in our history. So we have a responsibility.”

The NPP goes to the polls in April 2020 to elect Parliamentary Candidates in constituencies that they have incumbent Members of Parliament.

The election promises to be keenly contested as some popular government appointees have publicly indicated their intention to contest for some of the seats.
