Akufo Addo eroding Ghana’s democratic gains – Mahama

The Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic, John Mahama has accused President Akufo Addo of eroding Ghana’s democratic gains with his poor management of the country.

According to him, under the so-called “democrat” President Akufo Addo’s watch, the rights and freedoms of Ghanaians continue to be trampled upon.

There are key elements in our democracy, we started in 1992 with the new constitution and among the things our people were looking up to was that our economy will grow and our people will have prosperity and that we shall have democracy in which our rights and freedom are protected.

“Unfortunately, we are seeing a retrogression in the last four years. Our democracy is being eroded. Radio stations are being closed, journalists are being intimidated, our citizens are being harassed, our citizenship is being questioned whether we are Ghanaians or not,” Mr Mahama said at an event in Accra to introduce his Running mate, Prof. Naana Opoku Agyeman to the Chief Imam and Muslim Community.

Touching on the economy, ex-President Mahama stated that in the history of the Fourth Republic Ghana’s economy has not been in worse shape as it is today.

So when I say the economy is in ICU it really is in ICU, and that is why I’m running for office. We are running for office to restore our democratic rights so that our people can speak freely and express themselves without fear that somebody will kill you. We’re running for office to restore the economy…prosperity, and jobs for our young people.”
