The Savelugu Naa, Yoo-Naa Abukari Mahama VII has been selected as the new Yaa-Naa for Dagbon.
Yoo-Naa, who’s the head of the Andani Royal family is to be enskined per Dagbon tradition to succeed Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II who was murdered in 2002.
Dagbon, until now has been without a head since the unfortunate murder of Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II alongside forty of his elders in March 2002, during a communal conflict between the Andanis and Abudus in Yendi. A regent was appointed in 2006, after the burial of the late chief.
A committee of three eminent chiefs under the leadership of Otumfour Osei tutu II, the Asantehene, was formed by the state to mediate between the feuding factions for lasting peace and unity in Dagbon.
The committee finally reached a roadmap that saw the performance of the final funeral rites of the late Ya-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai of the Abudu gate and that of Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II, which is currently ongoing.
