President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has on Tuesday,February 12, 2019 selected Damongo a town in the West Gonja District as the capital of the newly created Savannah region.
This was announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo at a ceremony held at the seat of government[Jubilee House] to present the Constitutional Instrument backing the creation of the region.
Speaking at the ceremony to present the Constitutional Instrument(C.I) in the operationalization of the new region, President Akufo-Addo said:” the onus now is on government to put into motion the processes for the rapid development of the Savannah region.”
Like the other new regions, the Savannah region will also be getting GHc20 million as seed capital.
President Akufo-Addo has also set up a committee to assess the needs of the new regions.
The remaining regions awaiting the presentation of their Constitutional Instruments are Western North, Ahafo, Bono East, and Oti.
