Dumsor: Nationwide timetable not necessary – Energy Ministry tells Minority

The Energy Ministry has denied the NDC minority claim of ‘political pressure’ as the basis for the failure of GRIDCo to publish a general load shedding timetable amid the erratic power supply.

The minority in parliament had accused government of being behind the failure of GRIDCo to publish a general load shedding timetable in the wake of the erratic electricity supply.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, minority spokesperson on Energy, John Jinapor stated GRIDCo had plans of publishing a general load shedding timetable but for government interference.

A Press Statement issued by the ministry in reaction to the minority’s Press conference dismissed any planned nationwide load shedding in the country, saying it’s needless.

“For the record, there has been no nationwide load shedding in the country, neither has there been an attempt to embark on one because there is no need to. Some of the projects ongoing in Accra and Kasoa, for example, will require outages for some days. The Pokuase timetable is out, starting from May 10 to May 17th 2021.

“That of Kasoa is yet to be published, and shall be released at the appropriate time when the necessary arrangements and consultations with the relevant stakeholders have taken place. The only reason these outages are being carried is to allow for the contractors to tie in their works into the existing transmission lines,” the ministry’s statement said.
