Ejura shooting: Bereaved families deny claim members of #Fixthecountry movement has taken money from them

Families of Abdul Nasir and Muntala Muhammed who were shot dead by soldiers during the Ejura disturbance have vehemently denied claims that some members of the #Fixthecountry movement have fraudulently taken monies from them which the Government paid as compensation.

Iddi Abdul Kadir who claimed to be the liaison officer of the Chief of the Ejura Traditional council, also contesting for the position of NPP Ejura chairmanship had claimed on social media that members of the pressure group had dishonestly taken the monies from the bereaved families.

But responding to the claims, Abdulai Abubakar Atia (Rep. Abdul Nasir Usif Family) who addressed the media, stated categorically that Iddi Abdul Kadir’s assertion is baseless, without any credibility and must not be taken seriously, adding that the latter is only up to mischief and pushing his political agenda against the #Fixthecountry movement.

“Iddi Abdul Kadir” and his dirty political cohorts, are not part of our families, why was he intruding in our privacy? We want to emphasise that this case will travel to court to seek justice and protect ourselves from these politically motivated agenda. These were the similar insinuations that led to the killing of Kaaka and eventually the Ejura unrest that saw the death of Abdul Nasir Usif, Murtala Mohammed and left  many others injured. Ejura is not calm yet as you think, these incidences are still fresh in our minds and the least provocation can spike tensions, we are peaceful, and we need Ejura and Ghana to be peaceful”

He added: “have any of the recipients of the compensation told Iddi about any fraudulent activities for that matter tasked him to collect it for them? We have taken it with great concern and worry because we want our deceased ones to rest in peace. This is our family issue, and we don’t want anybody to remind us of the past.

Abdulai Abubakar Atia further wondered what Iddi Abdul Kadir’s problem was about the payment of the compensation.

“He was claiming that monies were given to some people that did not deserve them. We want to ask him, was it his money or government have asked him to collect the compensation back?

“He claimed he and his Royal highness, Ejura Hene who doubles as the VIP Chief Protocol Officer at the office of the Vice President were the ones that facilitated the payment of the compensations and for that matter, they need their cut. He claimed one family promised to pay him (Iddi)  and Ejura paramount chief but failed to honour the promise, he said “not even pure water”. He claimed the family must pay him (Iddi) and His ROYAL HIGHNESS the chairman of Ejura traditional council an amount of thirty thousand Ghana Cedis(.GH30,000)

Abdulai Abubakar Atia disclosed that there is a tape circulating on social media by one of the families of the victims about the request he made on such an amount.

“According to Mr. Abdullai’s brother, Iddi told him that, some members from Ejura traditional council were claiming thirty thousand Ghana Cedis(30,000)  as part of their share from the deceased family. Let me remind him and Ghanaians that, this compensation cannot bring back our lost ones and the money cannot equate to their lives. If Iddi likes our family he should come and join hands to fight for the justice for Ejura people as recommended by the Ejura committee of inquiry.”

Abdulai Abubakar Atia vowed that both families will press charges against Iddi for character assassination, maligning, and distortion of facts to create enmity for the family and for issuing threats to the families.
