Ejura killing: Interior Minister extends C’ttee of Inquiry’s deadline by one week

The Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery has extended the period of work for the Committee of Inquiry investigating the killings in Ejura in the Ashanti Region by one week.

This comes after Justice George Kingsley Koomson led 3-member Committee of Inquiry asked for a one-week extension to complete its work.

In a letter addressed to the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, the committee said considering the testimonies yet to be taken it is requesting an extension of the deadline to complete its work to Friday, the 16th day of July 2021.

The committee was initially expected to complete its work within ten days and subsequently provide a detailed report from the inquiry, with recommendations for appropriate action by July 09, 2021.

The committee is made up of Justice George Kingsley Koomson, a Justice of the Court of Appeal, Vladimir Antwi-Danso, Security Expert, and Miss Juliet A. Amoah, Executive Director of Penplusbyte.

President Akufo-Addo ordered Interior Minister Ambrose Dery to conduct a Public Inquiry into the circumstances that led to the Ejura killings.

Two people last week Tuesday were shot dead while four others sustained various degrees of injuries at Ejura after security officers allegedly opened fire on angry youth protesting the murder of social activist Muhammed Ibrahim popularly known as Kaaka.

He is said to have had his head clubbed in his home Friday night by the assailants until he became unconscious and was rushed to the Ejura Government Hospital. He was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi where he died last week Monday afternoon.
