Official: Akufo-Addo re-elected President with 51.59% votes

The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has won the 2020 Presidential election, beating former President, John Dramani Mahama, Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with 6,730,413 representing 51.59%.

Mr. Mahama on the other hand polled 6214,889 representing 47.366% of the total valid votes cast.

The Total number of valid votes casts in the 2020 elections is 13,434,574 representing 79% of the total registered voters.

A presidential candidate in Ghana’s Presidential election needs 50 + 1 percentage points of the total valid votes cast to be declared winner, according to laws of the country’s Electoral Commission.

Delay in declaration

The commission failed on its promise to announce results 24 hours after the polls.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Jean Mensa says rains and other challenges on election day affected the timeline set for results declaration.
