Elections 2020: EC officials arrested for tampering with ballot papers

The Electoral Commission(EC), working with the Ghana Police Service has identified and removed some electoral officers from posts who are suspected to have a hand in the tempering of some ballot papers in polling stations in Awutu Senya and Bawku Central constituencies.

There have been isolated cases of Presidential ballot papers being tampered in the above-mentioned areas.

A statement issued by the EC informed the public that the Presidential ballot papers for the 2020 General elections has 12 candidates and for a correctly thumb-printed ballot to be considered valid and countered, all the Presidential candidates must be on the ballot paper.

The Commission entreats all its staff and field officials to let the truth guide them and integrity preserve them as they continue with this important exercise. We also urge political party and candidate’s agents and the general public to be vigilant to ensure a free, fair, fair, credible and transparent election,” the statement added.

ALLEGED CASES OF TAMPERING WITH PRESIDENTIAL BALLOT PAPERS

Information reaching the Commission indicates that there have been isolated cases of Presidential ballot papers being tampered with in some polling stations in Awutu Senya West and Bawku Central constituencies.

The Commission, working with the Ghana Police Service, has identified the suspect Officers and removed them from post pending further investigations.

The General Public is informed that the Presidential ballot paper for the 2020 General Election has twelve (12) candidates. For a correctly thumb printed ballot to be considered valid and counted. all the Presidential candidates must be on the ballot paper.

The Commission entreats all its Staff and Field Officials to let the truth guide them and integrity preserve them as they continue with this important exercise.

We also urge the Political Party and Candidate’s agents and the General Public to be vigilant to ensure a free. fair, credible and transparent election.
