Speaker of Parliament Prof. Mike Oquaye has chided corrupt politician as he urges them to learn from the late former National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Kwabena Adjei, whom he says was not a corrupt politician.
Speaking during the filing pass of remains of former majority leader at the Parliament House in Accra, Prof. Oquaye extolled Dr. Adjei’s corruption stance.
“Dr Adjei was a voice and actor of moderation in our politics at one time. He was a man who was principled and showed in his various actions and activities, he went by his conviction. He could be wrong but he was sincere about the steps that he took.
“He was honest, he was not corrupt. I follow Ghanaian politics and I’m saying this in public, he was not corrupt. And it’s a quality we need for men and women in public life,” he noted.
The former NDC chairman died on March 12, 2019 at age 76, after battling ill health for some time.
Dr Adjei, until his passing, was a member of the Council of Elders of the party, a former member of parliament for Biakoye Constituency, a former PNDC Deputy Secretary of the Volta Region and former PNDC Deputy Secretary of Industries, Science & Technology.
He also served as a former Minister of Lands & Forestry, former Minister of Food & Agriculture and former Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in the 4th Republic.
