Several properties running into thousands of Cedis have been destroyed after fire ravaged a section of the Asamankese market in the Eastern Region Tuesday evening.
The fire, which immediate cause is not yet known took several hours to be brought under control as some youth in the town chased officers of the Fire Service for arriving late to the scene.
An eye witness Sam Tuga said the youth were enraged after what they say was the Fire Service’s lackluster attitude towards dousing the inferno.
“The Fire Service came all the way fro Kade to the scene but there was an incident. The fire started about an hour before the Fire Service arrived here. The locals were very angry, they started hooting and the youth started attacking the Fire Service, so they took to their heels and the fire tender couldn’t wait to fight the fire. So the locals tried to contain the fire.”
