Ghana’s active COVID-19 cases drop to 5,444; death toll now 607

Ghana’s active COVID-19 cases have seen a reduction with the active case count at 5,444 as of Friday, February 26.

The infection rate now stands at 400 with 77,972 recoveries.

Providing updates on the country’s COVID-19 situation on Sunday evening President Akufo-Addo said “since I last spoke, 191 more people have sadly passed away, bringing the number of cumulative deaths to 607, and 24 persons are critically ill.”

Ghana last Friday received 600,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine made by the Serum Institute of India via the COVAX facility.

Some 43 districts including COVID-19 epicenters have been targeted as the vaccine campaign begins on March 2.

President Akufo and wife, Vice-President Bawumia and wife will on Monday, March 1, 2021 take the vaccine publicly at two (2) health facilities in Accra to allay the fears of some Ghanaians.

“Taking the vaccine will not alter your DNA, It will not embed a tracking device in your body, neither will it cause infertility in women or in men”.

“As your President, I want to assure you that the vaccine is safe”, he stated.
