Hawa Koomson retains Awutu Senya East seat

The Minister for Special Development Initiative, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has retained the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a very hard fought battle with the parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Naa Koryoo Okunor.

Hon. Koomson, according to provisional results tripping in polled 57, 114 votes while Naa Koryoo gathered 51,561 votes. That means 5,553 votes separated the two, with the certified results yet to be released by the Electoral Commission.

It is the third time Hon. Koomson has won the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat for the NPP, with the first being 2012.

In 2016, Hon. Hawa Koomson obtained 34,656 votes out of the 59,918 valid votes cast, representing 58.10%.

Then MCE for Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly, Adams Huhu who represented the NDC, polled 24,373, representing 40.86%, Nana Kweku Appiah Kwarteng from the PPP polled 494, representing 0.83% and Ishmael Addy from the CPP also polled 123, representing 0.21%.
