Key suspect in Prof. Benneh’s murder dies at Police Hospital

James Nana Womba, the lead suspect in the alleged murder of law lecturer Professor Yaw Benneh has died at the Police Hospital in Accra.

The suspect died on Saturday while on oxygen. Nana Womba who was a cleaner in the house of the deceased confessed to his involvement in the murder of the university of Ghana lecturer.

He’s named other suspects in the murder, police revealed in the last court hearing.

Background

At the last court sitting, three out of the four persons who were arrested in relation to the death of the University of Ghana law lecturer, Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, were discharged.

The three discharged were, Christian Pobee, 32, cleaner; Isaac Botchwey, 41, houseboy; cleaner; and Adams Mensah Mansur, 52, gardener.

They were provisionally charged with murder.

At the last court sitting, prosecution led by Inspector Ebenezer Teye-Okuffo, withdrew the earlier charge and substituted with the new one.

He told the court that, their investigations did not incriminate the three persons and prayed for them to be discharged.

He said Womba upon investigation confessed of conspiring with Nkansah and two others who are on the run to committee the crime.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ebenezer Teye-Okuffo, asked the court to remand them as investigations were still ongoing in the case.

The charges were read to them but the pleas of the accused persons were not taken.
