Mahama wasn’t ripe for Presidency – Bagbin

The Member of Parliament for Nadowli Kaleo and presidential aspirant for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has said the party lost the 2016 general election because ex President Mahama was not matured for the Presidency.

According to him, Mr Mahama lacked some critical ingredients for the Presidency because he was not properly prepared for that high office of the land.

The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament contended that ex President Mahama should remained in Parliament for a much longer time to enable him better understand governance.

He added that as fate will have it, certain circumstances forced the party to rush Mr Mahama unto the Presidential ticket first as running mate to the late John Mills and then by default as presidential candidate.

Mr. Bagbin noted that he nonetheless was instrumental in remedying the deficiencies in the former president.

He insists that he is the best bet for the NDC Flagbearership position as he is matured for the job and is the most experience amongst the other contestants in the race.

“It was under his leadership that the NDC was that humiliated in the 2016 election and so he has a baggage to carry…and it was through me that he was able to climb up and he is aware the kind of contribution I did to mould him to get to that state.

“I must say that maybe we had to rush him into that leadership position. He hadn’t had enough opportunity to mature before getting the presidency,” the former Health Minister said during a campaign tour in the Central region.
