The National Security has commenced investigations into the mysterious GH¢1,650,271.00 funding of the New Edubiase Sports Stadium.

The amount is said to have been paid to SHAKDEEN Limited, the contractor working on the project as phase one construction works which included the following:

a) Site preparation and clearing: Excavation & Earth Works.

b) Construction of two changing room for players.

c) Construction of a set of wash rooms for the players.

d) Construction of a sitting venue for match officials and special guests.

e) Construction of the football playing field.

f) Construction of Inner Perimeter.

g) Construction of a fencing round the playing field.

However, there is no trace of evidence of the source of funding for the sports stadium.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, responding to the issue in his prepared notes submitted to Parliament which is captured in the Order Paper dated Thursday, November 1, 2018, said the funding of the said the funding of the project was not captured in the Ministry’s budget in 2015 and 2016 even though the contract was awarded in June 2016.

“There is no evidence of sponsorship for the project. The source of funding there remains unknown”, he noted.

He added “Upon further enquiries, it was disclosed that the amount so far paid to the contractor totalling GH¢1,650,271.00 was received in cash from the then Minister for Youth and Sports. The matter has been referred to the National Security for investigation regarding the source of funding”.

He said the Ministry of Youth and Sports is committed to providing infrastructure throughout the country and therefore will see to the completion of the New Edubiase Sports Stadium.

Mr. Asiamah further noted that he is in talks with the Minister of Finance for support to complete the project.
