NDC to extend maternity leave to 4 months; grant 7-days paternity leave

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has promised to extend maternity leave from the current three months to four months.

This is captured in the party’s 2020 manifesto titled ” People’s Manifesto: Jobs, Prosperity and more.”

Under its health policies the party seeks to amend the law to provide the four months maternity leave, in addition to existing legal maternity provisions and grant seven days paternity leave.

The party’s running mate for the elections, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, revealing this in highlights of the party’s manifesto said new mothers go through a lot of challenges caring for their new babies and that they needed more time to gather themselves together before going back to work.

She further explained, the extension of the maternity leave will help new mothers to properly plan their lives before resuming work.
