Police in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region have confirmed the death of three illegal miners following the collapse of a galamsey pit which also left two others severely injured.
The District Police Commander, Superintendent Ohene Sakyi who confirmed the incident said the illegal miners died instantly and their bodies deposited at the Agroyesu Hospital morgue.
“They are from Manso Asaman numbering ten, all male. They went to an abandoned site to dig for gold, they dug deep and because it had rained the top caved in on them. Three were unable to escape and they died, the rest ran away. Since it is illegal those who ran away we never got to them when we enquired we were told they were not natives and so had traveled to their hometowns and we could not get the police to trace them. The three who died we went there and picked the body from the ground and sent to Agroyesu Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
