Police admin. warns ‘doom Prophets’ against breaching public peace

The Police Administration has cautioned Prophets who are fond of prophesying doom to be mindful of their pronouncement considering the security implications of their utterances.

According to the Police Administration, it has observed with concern the worrying trend of prophesies made by religious persons about the death of certain individuals which have the tendency of breaching public peace and causing fear and panic in the country.

The statement by the Police comes on the back of the New Year eve’s prophesies by controversial Prophet, Rev. Owusu Bempah in which he declared that some past and current leaders of this country including ex President Kufuor and his wife, ex President John Mahama, Vice President Dr. Bawumia and the National Chief Imam, Sheik Osman Nuhu Sharabutu will all die this year, 2019.

His pronouncement which was met with public anger led to some Muslim youth storming his church and vanadalizing properties worth thousands of cedis.

In a statement signed by the Director-General, Ghana Police Service, ACP David Eklu stated media reportage on such pronouncement and the interpretation put on the pronouncement in the media is also worrying.

“As a result the Police Administration is cautioning Editors, media practitioners, discussants and owners of media establishments to be circumspect and exercise the necessary editorial responsibility to ensure that the media is not used as a tool for aiding breach of the peace and causing fear and panic.

“Police also condemns any retaliatory acts by opposing factions and warn that causing harm, damage to property, rioting, threatening etc is a crime. They disturb public peace,” The statement noted.
