President Akufo Addo hands over 100 cars to Police Service

President Akufo Addo has presented one hundred (100) vehicles to the Ghana Police Service to beef up the mobility and logistical base of the security agency.

Addressing a brief presentation ceremony at the Forecourt of the Police Headquarters in Accra today, the 23rd of December 2019, President Akufo Addo, said the decision of his administration to resource the Police Service by uplifting its logistical base which stood at about 458 serviceable cars when his administration took office, is to ensure that the Police can be more effective in their operations.

“We know how important a well resourced and efficient Police Service is to the maintenance of peace and order in our nation. So over these three years, including today, we have been able to bring six hundred and seventy-six (676) additional vehicles to the Police Service,” President Akufo Addo said.

The vehicles presented include pickups, SUVs, riot patrol vans, crime scene vans, troop carriers, ambulances and buses. President Akufo Addo, charged the Police Service to ensure that the vehicles are properly maintained.

“I need not remind the leadership of the Police about the importance of maintenance. It is a concept that we do not uphold very well in our country and it is important that from now on, we begin to develop a culture of maintenance of our assets,” President Akufo Addo noted.

The hundred vehicles were secured by the government of Ghana from the government of the Peoples Republic of China.

President Akufo Addo in his remarks registered his appreciation to the Chinese government for their unwavering support to Ghana.

“China has proven to be a very strong and reliable friend of our nation and the various initiatives of the Chinese Ambassador are initiatives that we value very much,” President Akufo Addo indicated.

Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang, in his address noted that even though Ghana is the safest country in the whole of West Africa and perhaps the whole of Africa, there still remains the need to safeguard the territorial integrity of the nation.

“My belief is that the vehicles will play an important role in fighting crimes and will support the protection of both the Ghanaian people and foreign investors,” Ambassador Wang said.
