Proliferation of illicit arms in Ghana a threat to National Security – Ejura-Sekyedumase MP

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ejura Sekyedumase, Muhammed Bawah Brimah is alarmed over the proliferation of small and illicit arms in the possession of individuals in the country.

According to MP, he finds the situation a great source of concern as it is a threat to national security and stability.

The MP’s comment comes in the wake of the shooting to death of one Abdul Wassiu, a member of the Ashanti Regional Task force of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) by his fellow party member and also a member of the party’s affiliated vigilante group, the ‘Hawks”.

While condemning the killing of Wassiu, in an interview with Naagyei Fm, the Legislator called on the security agencies to intensify their efforts and clamp down on persons illegally keeping arms.

There are too many illicit arms and weapons in the system and this must not be countenanced by the security agencies. They should up their game and ensure that they retrieve all such weapons to ensure a peaceful and safe society. In Wassui’s case, I’m sure if the suspect murderer had no gun on him, no death would have been recorded, the worst would have been a fight between the two. This death is regrettable.”

He called on the youth to find something productive doing and refrain fro espending their energies on needless and criminal ventures.
