Speaker to rule on Adwoa Safo’s seat today

Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya MP will know her fate later this morning (Tuesday) as Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin rules on the Privileges Committee report declaring her seat vacant.

The Privileges Committee report declared her seat vacant by majority decision after she failed to appear during its hearings.

Chairman of the committee Joseph Osei-Owusu has insisted the Dome Kwabenya seat is vacant.

In his welcome address on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, when the House reconvened, Alban Bagbin announced his decision on the matter is ready.

Before Parliament went on recess in July, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin deferred his ruling on whether the Dome-Kwabenya seat should be declared vacant or not following her failure to honour a meeting by the Privileges Committee on her continuous absence from Parliament.

The former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection is one of three members of Parliament who were called before the Privileges Committee for being absent from parliamentary duties without any reason, beyond the permissible period.

Even though the two other MPs, Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central, and Henry Quartey, MP for Ayawaso West, appeared before the committee, the Dome-Kwabenya legislator failed to honour the summons.
