Takoradi: Baby thieves to face court today

The Western Regional Police Command will today(Wednesday) arraign seamstress Rose Mawusi Fiaku and her mason boyfriend Lawson Lartey for court after they abducted a one-year-old baby from his mother at the Takoradi Market Circle.

The two were arrested by the Takoradi police SWAT team in the early hours of yesterday at Effiekuma and have subsequently been charged with stealing a baby and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The abduction that took place on Friday, March 23 resulted in an uproar in Sekondi-Takoradi with many keen on finding the culprits and reuniting the baby and his parents.

Rose Mawusi Fiaku, 42, had stolen the child under the pretext of buying sausage for him.

The Western Regional Police CID upon a tip-off arrested Rose, who led them on a wild goose chase to recover the baby even though she had admitted having the baby.

For more than an hour, they were moving from one area to another looking for the baby, until the police following another tip-off, took her to her residence at Effie Kuma Number One, where the baby was found.

Her partner, Lawson Lartey, 33, initially resisted handing over the child, denying that there was any child in the room.

However, the cry of the child, Francis Mawusi Ahiagbenu, from within gave him away.

The two are currently at the Central Police Station in Takoradi.
