Teacher unions end strike

The three teacher unions who have been on strike for the past week protesting against the appointment of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr Eric Nkansah, have called off the strike.

This follows the National Labour Commission (NLC) securing a restraining order against the teacher Unions from continuing with their strike.

Addressing the media on behalf of the unions, the President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Kabonu asked all teachers to return to the classroom from Monday, November 14, 2022, until further notice.

“We are law-abiding citizens, so we have decided to obey the orders of the Court, and we have asked all our members to call off the strike and to go back to the classroom,” he said.

Mr. Kabonu further stated that the teacher unions will not stop engaging “the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, and report to the Labour Commission on Wednesday, November 16, on the issues that led to the strike in the first place to find solutions to their demand.”
