Reggae/Dancehall artiste AK Songstress has expressed her excitement over the artistes who’ve been nominated in the reggae/Dancehall category for this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Musicians who have been nominated include Samini, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Epixode and AK Songstress.

Speaking to host Moses Aluebasi on Naagyei FM‘s entertainment show, AK Songstress said as far as she’s concerned this is the best VGMA has ever done in terms of nominations for the reggae/dancehall category.

“I feel very honoured, I’m happy for the category. It’s not about me winning the award but I’m happy for the fact that as far as I’m concerned for once this is the best VGMA has done with the reggae/dance hall category because everybody there is a good musician who can mount any international stage and make this country proud.

“It’s not like previous years where some highlife artistes were nominated in the reggae/dancehall category just because their songs were popular. VGMA has honoured me and has honoured the genre, if it continues like this it will be good for the country and artistes as well.”

Asked by the host if she thinks she’ll win the award being the only female, AK Songstress as responded “ I have to be frank and sincere that we all know that they have larger fan base and there is rivalry between some of the people in the category so anybody can win. I can win the award but I don’t know what VGMA will do. If I win the award I’ll say boldly that I deserve to win.”
