Mahama names new Ghanaian Armed Forces Acting Service Chiefs

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have appointed new Acting Service Chiefs, according to President John Mahama’s announcement.
This is a step in the process of restructuring GAF’s leadership.

The modifications, which go into effect on March 24, 2025, are meant to fortify the country’s defence structure and guarantee ongoing military superiority.

The following are the recently appointed Acting Service Chiefs:

Acting Defence Staff Chief: Brig. Gen. William Agyapong

  • Acting Chief of Army Staff – Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu
  • Acting Chief of Naval Staff – Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing
  • Acting Chief of Air Staff – Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong
  • Acting Chief of Staff – Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan

As mandated by law, the Council of State must be consulted before these appointments are made.
At a meeting earlier today at Flagstaff House, President Mahama thanked the departing Service Chiefs, who were led by Chief of the Defence Staff General Thomas Oppong-Peprah.

The President thanked them for their devoted service to the country and promised to continue using their knowledge and experience to aid in national development, according to a statement released by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications.
