Viral social media rumours that 16-year-old suspect driver Elrad Salifu Amoako is not being held in the Osu Correctional Centre have been denied by the Ghana Police Service.
Amoako, who was ordered by the court to be imprisoned at the Osu facility on November 1, is still being held there as of this morning, the police explained in a press statement issued on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
According to section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), the police declared these assertions to be untrue and cautioned that disseminating such false information is illegal.
Investigators have responded to the allegations by identifying two social media accounts linked to the spread of these rumours: a Facebook account called “EmpressPapa A-Amigos” and a TikTok account called “prisywanlov1.”
To bring the people responsible for these accounts to justice, the police are vigorously following them.
“We find it extremely regrettable that a tragic event that claimed the lives of two lovely souls is being used in an unGhanaian way to promote oneself,” the police said.
