AFCON 2025Q: Ghana vs. Sudan at Accra Sports Stadium approved by CAF

GFA, Clubs meet NSA on charges on usage of Accra Sports Stadium - Ghana Football Association

Ghana and Sudan will play an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium in 2025, thanks to approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
On the third matchday of the qualification series for the tournament that will be held in Morocco, the Black Stars take on the Falcons of Jediane.

Before the clearance, the CAF had instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to choose a different location for the match following the lifting of the Baba Yara Stadium’s temporary approval.

Last week, CAF visited both the Accra Sports Stadium and the Cape Coast Stadium before ultimately rejecting the former.

According to a CAF announcement regarding the approval,

‘’After carefully examining the results from the independent CAF inspection of the Accra and Cape Coast sports stadiums, we are happy to notify you that the Accra sports stadium has been granted permission to host the Morocco 2025 AFCON Qualifiers. In particular, it will play home to Ghana vs. Sudan in Group F – Matchday 3, which is set for October 11, 2024.

“We respectfully ask that, in view of this approval, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the stadium management team give the necessary improvements to the pitch and other important stadium areas top priority in the days leading up to the game day to guarantee the best possible experience for the participating teams and the fans in attendance.

“Please note that CAF will continue to closely monitor the readiness of the stadium for this match, as well as for future CAF-sanctioned events.”

After losing both of their initial two matches against Angola and Niger, the Black Stars are looking to get their qualification campaign back on track.
The date of this match is October 11, 2024, on Friday.
