President Akufo-Addo is expected to give his assent to the Right to Information Act, which was passed by parliament in March this year.
The President is required to append his signature for the bill to become law and operational.
The law is meant to operationalise Article 21 (1) (f) of the Constitution which states that “All persons shall have the right to information subject to such qualifications and laws as are necessary in a democratic society.”
The passage of the 19-year old RTI bill happened following massive pressure from the media and civil society groups, especially, the RTI coalition.
The RTI law saw delays and postponements, but was finally passed March 26, 2019.
