Asantehene’s convoy attack: The Techiman Traditional Council says there is no animosity between Asantes and us.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is not a King: A Rejoinder

Reports on social media about an alleged attack on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s convoy while he was visiting the Bono East Region have been clarified by the Techiman Traditional Council.
There is no hostility between the people of Techiman and the Asantes, the Council said in a statement on December 3, emphasising their respect for one another and their common heritage.

This follows on Monday, December 2, when several unnamed young people threw stones at Asantehene’s motorcade in Techiman.
Nationwide alarm has been aroused by the incident that took place in the Bono East Region.

An anonymous young person thought to be from Techiman threw stones at a few of the convoy’s buses as the Asantehene’s convoy was making its way back to Kumasi after a burial in Nkoranza, according to an initial police report.
Accordingly, the Council observed that the Asantehene and the Techimanhene regard one another as brothers and have familial ties as members of the Oyoko Clan.

According to the report, both traditional leaders have kept up a close friendship over the years, as seen by their reciprocal visits and cooperation at important occasions.

The Council addressed allegations that tensions among the young were caused by Otumfuo’s security personnel shooting and harassing defenceless citizens in Techiman.

They clarified that these claims, together with unconfirmed social media posts, probably exacerbated misconceptions and infuriated the young people, who then took action to protect themselves.
The Holy Family Teaching Hospital provided medical care for those hurt, and the Council stated that the prompt action of security forces contributed to the preservation of peace.

Everyone is welcome in Techiman, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity, according to the Techiman Traditional Council.

They exhorted everyone to concentrate on initiatives that promote growth and harmony, especially young people.

The Council also urged people to use social media responsibly, warning against postings that propagate lies or disparage traditional authorities.

As the statement continued, “Chieftaincy is a revered institution that must be respected at all times,” Ghanaians were urged to preserve the harmony and tranquilly that their ancestors had left behind.
