President Nana Akufo-Addo has announced the full reopening of basic schools(from kindergarten to Junior High School) both private and public on January 15, 2021.
According to him, all Senior High School Form 1 students will start classes from 10th Marrch, 2021, with all students embarking on the single-track academic calender.
The President added that their seniors in SHS 2 and 3, will however return to school from 18th January 2021, stressing that SHS 3 students in all schools like SHS1 students will no longer run the double-track system.
He noted that the expansion of infrastructure at the various senior high schools over the last three years has brought us to this favourable situation. However, the double-track system will still be applicable to SHS2 students in schools that are employing it.
Speaking on his update number 21 on the measures taken against the spread of Coronavirus on Sunday evening, President Akufo-Addo noted that students in universities and other tertiary institutions are to be in school from Saturday 9th January.
He assured that prior to their return to school, government through the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service will ensure that all institutions both public and private are fumigated and disinfected.
“Schools and institutions with their own hospitals and clinics will be equipped with the necessary personal protective equipment and have isolation centres to deal with any positive cases. All other schools and institutions without their own clinics and hospitals have been mapped to health facilities,” the President noted.
Basic schools in Ghana have been closed since March 2020 as a measure to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
