Contempt of court: Supreme Court discharge Ayine

Former Deputy Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, who is a subject of contempt of court has been discharged after the Supreme Court expressed satisfaction with his apology.

Dr Ayine, was on last Monday, February 22 hauled before the apex court for scandalizing in a post-election petition court hearing address to the media on February 17

The apex court panel of seven hearing the 2020 Election Petition while deciding against slapping him with punitive sanctions, ordered the contemnor to purge himself by apologizing and retracting his comments through the same medium by today.

In court on Thursday, the panel chaired by Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah said his attention has been drawn to the fact that he has apologised as was expected of him.

Dr Ayine has since been discharged from the contempt charges after purging himself accordingly.

We’ll sin no more

Dr Ayine, who was present in court through his lawyer Frank Becheem thanked the panel for discharging his client, saying “we will go and sin no more.”

EC Lawyer in solidarity

With virtually an empty courtroom, there were few notable faces to give solidarity to the former deputy Attorney General. Lawyer Tony Lithur, Marieta Brew Appiah Oppong and Edudzie Tamakloe were present.

But none that caught the eyes was Justin Amenuvor, Lawyer for the EC who was in court to support him as a close friend.

He said, he was the best man for Dr Ayine during his wedding and as a close friend, he decided to show up in solidarity not as a lawyer but as a friend.

GBC delays hearing

Hearing of the contempt had to delay for over an hour following a miscommunication with the nation’s broadcaster over live coverage.

The chief justice duly apologized for the delay.
