The Paramount Chief of Ejura in the Ashanti Region, Barima Osei Hwedie has called on the Local Council of Churches in the area to declare 3-day fasting to pray for God’s forgiveness and to purify the land following recent murders in the town.
The Chief made the call when he hosted Pastors in his home on Wednesday on the occasion of his 54th birthday.
“I humbly have an appeal to make, the recent happenings in Ejura that have left us all grieving is a huge problem for me. As a leader whenever sometimes happens in your jurisdiction everybody looks up to you for help or a solution. The land of Ejura has been soiled, there’s a lot of pain in people especially the bereaved families. We’ve done our best humanly possible by offering support to the affected persons but what about those who are habouring so much pain in their hearts. I will beg of you (Pastors) to help us by declaring a 3-day fast toegther with our various congregations and pray for the purification of the Land of Ejura and ask for God’s forgiveness and also remove pain in the hearts of people so that Ejura will have peace once again. I know you’ll help me out in this regard.”
Prophet Foster Akwasi Aniakwaa, Former Church of Pentecost Area Head (Mampong Area) who spoke on behalf of the Pastors accepted the Chief’s appeal and assured that the fasting and prayers will be communicated to the various local churches come Sunday.
Ejura has for almost two weeks not known peace after Social activist, Mohammed Iddrisu aka Kaaka was murdered. He had his head clubbed in his home on the night of Friday, 25th June 2021, by his assailant until he became unconscious and was rushed to the Ejura Government Hospital.
He was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi where he died last week Monday afternoon.
Following his death, youth of Ejura staged a demonstration during which two people were shot dead by a military team which had been deployed to control the agitated youth.
A committee of Inquiry is currently sitting to probe the killings.
