The chief of Donkro Nkwanta in the Nkroanza South Constituency has expressed his utmost gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for turning a day Senior High School established by the community into a government Assisted SHS.
He said as a result of the elevation of the school to a Government Assisted school, the children of Donkro Nkwanta too are enjoying the Free Senior High School programme.
Nana Owusu Akyaw Brempong II was speaking at his palace to announce the good news to his people on Thursday, 8th September in the presence of the school’s Interim Board of Governors, Chiefs and a cross-section of the people of Donkro Nkwanta.
He said even though majority of Ghanaians students enjoy the Free SHS programme, those at Donkro Nkwanta were paying school fees, thereby, putting a great burden on parents.
He seized the opportunity to appeal to the Nkoranza South Municipal Assembly to consider the Donkro Nkwanta SHS in the form of dormitories, classroom blocks and other facilities since the central government cannot do everything alone.
Nana Owusu Akyaw Brempong II also thanked the Bono East Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Efua A.D Amuah the Interim Board of Governors and Madam Harriet Kyeremanteng Oppong, a citizen of Nkoranza who works in Accra for putting their shoulders to the wheels to work for this dream to come true.
He was particularly grateful to Madam Harriet Kyeremanteng Oppong who picked up the issue when it was brought to her notice and made sure those who matter did work on the adoption of the school. He said the ball is now in the court of the parents to make sure their wards are enrolled in the school so that they too will benefit from the national cake.
In his view, as an educationist, he has come to realize that nothing is as priceless as education so parents should not take things for granted when it comes to educating their wards.
On the recruitment of teachers to the school, Nana Owusu Akyaw said he had to travel to Accra to meet the Minister of Education who made sure qualified teachers are recruited to man the school.
“I will like to thank the minister for a yeoman’s job done to the people of Donkro Nkwanta” He said.
