Ejura disturbances: Govt apologizes to deceased families

A high-powered government delegation has rendered an apology to the families of persons killed during the disturbance in Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

The government delegation consisting of Shiekh Aremeyaw Shaibu Spokesperson for National Chief Imam, Ben Abdullah CEO Zongo Development Authority, Hon Mustapha Hamid, and Alhaji Sumaila Spokesperson for the delegation among others, visited Ejura Traditional Council on Thursday to present their findings and recommendations to Ejurahene based on the three-member committee’s recommendation.

Alhaji Sumaila, Spokesperson for the government delegation said the committee’s recommendation will not be published for the consumption of the public in order to prevent media discussions that will reignite tension in Ejura.

Shiekh Aremeyaw Shaibu Spokesperson for National Chief Imam also thanked Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II for his good Leadership and then advised the families of the deceased persons to accept the government’s apology and stop worrying about the sad incident.

Nana Odiasempa Antwi Obugyie II Ejura Kontihene said political parties are using Ejura disturbances to score political points which shouldn’t be, and then pleaded with Zongo Chiefs to advise the Zongo youth against any violent act.

Barima Osei Hwedie II Ejurahene also commended the government for setting up the investigative committee, adding that the president and his vice president have shown huge respect to Ejura Traditional Council in the wake of the disturbances.

He pleaded with the government to help improve security in Ejura Sekyedumase Security by upgrading the District Police Command to Divisional Status which will increase the number of police personnel in the Municipality.

Three persons died during the violence in Ejura that occurred during protests that followed the death of Ibrahim Muhammed.

Ibrahim Muhammed, alias Kaaka Macho, died after he was attacked by unknown assailants on June 27 while returning home.

He’s believed to have been killed because he was critical of the government.

The 45-year-old was noted to be vocal on both local and national issues using his Facebook page.
