Ejura killing probe: Suspects not my bodyguards – Ejura MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ejura-Sekyedumase in the Ashanti Region, Mohammed Salisu Bamba has denied that two of the three suspects arrested over the murder of Social activist, Ibrahim Mohammed alias Kaaka are his bodyguards.

The Member of Parliament for Ejura-Sekyedumase, Mohammed Bawa Braimah has claimed that the two suspects – Ibrahim Issaka and Fuseini Alhassan are the MCE’s bodyguards.

They are said to have attacked Kaaka whose activities were said to be bringing the name of the government into disrepute.

A brother of Kaaka in a radio interview said the late activist told him about the alleged threats he received from the alleged bodyguards of the Ejura MCE.

But appearing before the Committee of Inquiry probing the recent killings in Ejura on Thursday, Hon. Salisu Bamba vehemently denied the two being his escorts and blamed some faceless individuals for using Kaaka’s death for their parochial interest.

He said he has no close relationship with the two who are polling station executives of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Ejura-Sekyedumase constituency.

I know them to be party members and they are our polling station executives, that is how I know them. We don’t have a personal relationship, our relationship is a political relationship. I have one Police bodyguard that I move with, I don’t have a personal bodyguard.”

Ask by the Chairman of the Committee, Justice George Kingsley Koomson, a justice of the Court of Appeal on why people are linking him to the suspects, Hon. Bamba responded, “that is the politics of it, that is what I was talking about.”

The 3-member Committee of Inquiry investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting to death of two persons during a demonstration over the death of a social activist, Ibrahim Mohammed alias Kaaka in Ejura on June 29, started its work on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.

The committee includes Justice George Kingsley Koomson, a justice of the Court of Appeal, Security Expert, Vladimir Antwi-Danso, and the Executive Director of Penplusbyte, Miss Juliet A. Amoah.

The committee is expected to complete its work within ten days and subsequently provide a detailed report from the inquiry, with recommendations for appropriate action by July 09, 2021.
