Ejura-Sekyedumase: Farmers receive 30,000 mango seedlings for planting

Farmers in the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality in the Ashanti Region have received 30,000 Mango seedlings to grow.

The seedlings were made available by the Tree Development Authority as part of the government’s Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) programme.

The Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) Programme is a decentralized National Tree Crop Programme to promote rural economic growth and improve household incomes of rural farmers through the provision of certified improved seedlings, extension services, business support and regulatory mechanisms.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ejura-Sekyedumase, Hon Dr. Kingsley Osei MCE during the presentation urged the farmers to take good care of the seedlings to ensure that the intended purpose is achieved.

He said government has committed to making Ejura-Sekyedumase the farming hub of Ghana and will do everything possible to realize this objective.

The beneficiary farmers expressed their gratitude to the government for this support and promised to put the seedlings to good use and ensure that the country benefits immensely from mango farming.

They appealed to the government to make available fertilizers at a reasonable cost and other chemicals which improve yield.
