Ejurahene forms Taskforce to deal with illegal felling of trees

The Paramount Chief of Ejura in the Ashanti Region Barima Osei Hwedie II, has constituted a Taskforce to clamp down on illegal felling of trees in the area.

The Taskforce is made up of Heads of the Municipal Police Commander, NIB(formally BNI) Boss, NADMO Coordinator, Prisons Director, and the Director of the Forestry Commission in the Municipality.

The Taskforce has been mandated by the Traditional authority to ensure that illegal felling of trees by chainsaw operators is ceased in the area.

Speaking at a press conference today, Barima Osei Hwedie II, served notice he’ll not have mercy on any person found to have illegally fell a tree.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the work of officers of the Forestry Commission in the area as they have failed to ensure illegal chainsaw operations.

He served notice that he’ll not hesitate to cause the transfer of any Forestry Commission officer who due to his or her long stay in the area has become compromised and not doing his or her work well.

Barima Osei Hwedie II, further warned that any sub chief who’s found to have a hand in illegal felling of trees will be ruthlessly dealt with and could be destooled.
