Election Petition: Supreme Court to resume hearing today

The Supreme Court will today resume hearing of the 2020 Election Petition case filed by the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama today.

At the last adjourned date, on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, Mr. Mahama requested an in-camera hearing on the status of one of their witnesses due to ill-health.

Mr Robert Joseph Mettle-Nunoo, one of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) representatives in the Electoral Commission’s (EC) ‘strong room’ during election 2020 has filed his witness statement backing the petition filed by ex-President John Mahama challenging the declaration of President Akufo-Addo as the winner of the presidential election.

He filed the witness statement Thursday (February 4, 2021) and is likely to be cross-examined by counsel for the First and second respondents, the Electoral Commission (EC) and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo respectively at the hearing of the petition at the Supreme Court today, February 5, 2021.

He is the third witness to be called upon by lawyers for Mr Mahama, after NDC Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Dr. Kpessa Whyte have already taken their turns in the witness box.

Rojo Mettle-Nunoo’s name has come up severally and he’s expected to play an important role in testifying about the veracity of an alleged consultation at the instance of the EC chairperson with Mr. Mahama over some grievances in the 2020 election.
