IMANI Africa’s president has condemned President John Dramani Mahama for firing former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, calling the process cold and heartless.
Franklin Cudjoe claims that the formal letter announcing Dr. Dampare’s termination omitted any mention of his service or any words of goodwill for the future.
Similar to the firing of former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo by former President Nana Akufo-Addo, he pointed out that at least an explanation was provided, despite the fact that Mr. Domelevo’s dismissal was highly denounced.
Some of us were worried about the letter’s writing style, which was incredibly chilly and devoid of gratitude.
On Saturday, March 15, he stated on Citi TV that “it should have at least included a simple ‘we wish you well in your future endeavours,’ but that was missing.”
Mr. Cudjoe also criticised the irregularity of leadership changes, saying that the administration of President Mahama should manage these issues with greater professionalism if it is to enhance governance.
“You must reset government properly and with respect if you wish to do so. “At least acknowledge the individual’s contribution,” he continued.
His remarks follow President Mahama’s removal of Dr Dampare from his position as Inspector-General of Police and the appointment of Christian Tetteh Yohunu, his deputy and Commissioner of Police (COP), to take his place.
