Free SHS not under review- Education Ministry refutes media report

The Ministry of Education has refuted claims that a review of the Akufo-Addo government’s flagship programme, Free Senior High School is underway.

The Director General of the Ghana Education Service(GES) Prof. Kwabena Opoku Amankwah in an interview with Joy News indicated that a review is ongoing and it’s geared at determining which of the cost components government can relinquish to parents to pay.

“…we can do the analysis and then come up and say that, ok, to give Raymond quality education, it will cost this much. Within that cost, these are the items in the cost.

“Then we will all put it out there and say this item, we can make do of it, and it will not affect quality, this item, I think we can get parents to pay,” he told host of Upfront, Raymond Acquah.

But the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng in a statement stressed that the Free SHS programme is not being reviewed.
