James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is declared the winner of Tuesday’s bye-election in Assin North according to official results from the Electoral Commission (EC). He received 17,245 of all valid votes cast.
Charles Opoku, who was in a close second, received 12, 630 votes.
Mr. Quayson is declared the victor with 57.56% of the votes after the official results from 99 voting places were tallied by the EC.
Officials with the opposition NDC had published some data that indicated Mr. Quayson, the party’s candidate, would win.
As a result, NDC members in the district went into a jubilant mood, with many dousing themselves in white powder.
