On Thursday, May 15, the five-member committee that President John Mahama established to look into three complaints against the Chief Justice will start hearings.
The committee was formed in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution and is presided over by Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang of the Supreme Court.
It was formed when a prima facie case against the Chief Justice was decided, and the Council of State was consulted.
The committee is supposed to meet three times a week and, after its work is finished, provide its conclusions and suggestions to the president.
Five petitions claiming impropriety have led to the ongoing investigation of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. Following consultation with the Council of State, President John Mahama suspended Chief Justice Torkornoo in response to these petitions and established a five-member committee to thoroughly investigate the accusation.
