Following what he described as a private act of compassion that unexpectedly came to light, Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), responded to a barrage of public criticism.
Sammy Gyamfi and Patricia Oduro Koranteng, also known as Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess who is now an evangelist, had a brief encounter in a recent video that has gone viral online.
Agradaa may be heard in the video asking Mr. Gyamfi’s car for some US dollar bills.
The Acting CEO is then seen counting a number of dollar dollars, which Agradaa then grabs and shows to spectators.
“I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private and never imagined that same could find its way into the public space. That is unfortunate and regrettable,” he wrote.
Acknowledging the disapproval from some quarters, including his own political allies, Mr Gyamfi offered a heartfelt apology.
“I understand the uproar that this gesture has generated, particularly from comrades who are sincerely hurt by same. To all such comrades, I AM SINCERELY SORRY for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views,” he stated.
Mr Gyamfi also extended gratitude to those who had reached out with support and encouragement, noting their solidarity during what he described as a difficult moment.
Reaffirming his commitment to public service, Mr Gyamfi emphasised that his understanding of public office remains unchanged.
“My view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems and help others has not changed,” he affirmed.
He wished Ghanaians a relaxing Sunday and Mother’s Day greetings as he wrapped up his speech.
Have a wonderful Sunday and remain blessed. To all the mothers out there, happy Mother’s Day.
