Increasing monetization of politics cause of corruption – Kyei Mensah

The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Majority Leader in Parliament Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has attributed the high level of corruption in Ghana’s governance system to the increasing monetization of politics in the country.

According to him, it takes a huge financial commitment to attain political positions which automatically results in the phenomenon of recouping monies spent during the canpaign process.

The Majority Leader is advocating for urgent steps to be taken to halt the disturbing trend which poses dire consequences in the state.

Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu made the comments at an engagement forum with political parties by the Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs.

Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has also expressed the strongest conviction that one sure way to reduce the monetization among political parties structures is to fill up grassroots positions with technocrats and administrators which will eliminate vote buying and costs incurred during intra party elections.

Meanwhile the Chief Director at the Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Evans Aggrey Darko has warned that a governance crisis is imminent if the current practice of excessive political monetization is allowed to flourish.
