Immediate past Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North, Maj. Rtd. Derrick Oduro says he’s enjoying life after losing his seat as the responsibility.
The former Deputy Minister of Defence and the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for the December 7, 2020 elections lost his seat to the NDC candidate after he polled 10,978 votes while his opponent Joseph Kwasi Mensah garnered 15, 124 votes.
The retired military officer who had been in Parliament for about 15 years in an interview with Ejura-based Naagyei FM stated that he’s more relaxed and has time for himself because the pressure that comes with occupying the high office of an MP is no more on him.
“Currently, I have my peace of mind, I’m being very honest. I’ve always seen appointments to public office as a call to serve but right now that I don’t occupy any office I’m free. Now, nobody comes to me in the morning and demands money to go to the hospital, or demand money to organize a funeral or outdooring or ask me to help plow his or her farm. While I was an MP I visited my constituency every weekend but now that responsibility and pressure are no more even though one or two people still come to me to seek help. I now have real peace in life.”
