The Juaben MCE-nominee and NPP Constituency Chairman, Alex Sarfo Kantanka, has been rejected again by the assembly members in his second attempt to secure a two-thirds majority of the total vote cast.
Out of the 26 total votes cast in the presence of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, on Monday, the nominee secured 10 Yes votes as against 15 No votes with 1 rejected ballot.
The disappointed nominee who could not control his emotions after the loss is reported to have accosted an assembly member to return the bribe he took earlier before the confirmation.
Meanwhile, the Juaben Traditional Council on Sunday 31st October clarified issues to do with a widely reported incident of some Assembly members kneeling to apologise to the Omanhene, Nana Otuo Siriboe II, for apparently voting against the President’s District Chief Executive nominee.
In a rejoinder issued by its Registrar, Kwaku Ankomah Asare, the Council said no Assemblymember was forced to kneel to apologise to the Chairman of the Council of State at his palace.
“After all the Omanhene had no mechanism to know how members voted,” it concluded.
It has described the stories circulating on social media as “vicious lies” and “propaganda” and decided to “set the records straight”.
