JoySports can report that Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has formally submitted his nomination to run for a seat on the CAF Executive Committee in the next elections in March 2025.
Mr. Okraku, who represents WAFU Zone B, will run for the seat without any opposition.
According to sources, the current WAFU Zone B representative on the CAF Executive Committee and President of the Niger Football Association, Djibril Hamidou, is running for a seat on the FIFA Council.
When Mr. Okraku abandoned his application for the CAF Executive Committee post in March 2021, an agreement was made that led to this development.
According to reports at the time, he consented to let Mr. Hamidou remain the WAFU Zone B representation on the ExCo while Okraku took over as WAFU Zone B president.
Kurt Okraku became leadership of the regional organisation, and Mr. Hamidou was granted a seat on the CAF Executive Committee as a consequence of the arrangement.
According to JoySports, Mr. Okraku has gained the entire support of WAFU Zone B members to represent the bloc at CAF’s highest decision-making table for this year’s elections.
In a similar vein, the bloc firmly supports Mr Hamidou’s candidature for the FIFA Council.
