Barcelona’s resounding victory against Brest made Robert Lewandowski the third player to reach 100 goals in the Champions League.
In Europe’s top tournament, only Lionel Messi (129 goals) and Cristiano Ronaldo (141 goals) have scored more goals than the 36-year-old.
In the tenth minute, Lewandowski scored his 100th goal from the penalty spot after Marco Bizot, the custodian for Brest, collided with the Poland striker’s back.
After a brilliant first touch put him ahead of Brendan Chardonnet and he slid the ball under Bizot to make it 2-0, Dani Olmo scored Barcelona’s first Champions League goal and gave them some breathing room.
After a spectacular spin in the area, Lewandowski easily slotted into the bottom corner to cap off an incredible Barcelona performance with his second of the evening and 101st in the tournament.
With 77% of the ball, the La Liga leaders controlled the game the entire time and kept the French team from making any attempts on goal.
In the second half, Olmo had yet another incredible opportunity to score, but Chardonnet, the captain of Brest, expertly cleared the ball off the line.
Mathias Pereira Lage drove the ball past Inaki Pena in a rare assault, and Brest found the back of the net, but the flag was promptly raised for offside.
With five minutes left, substitute Pablo Torre should have sealed the three points, but his shoddy attempt went wide of the post.
After winning four of their last five games, Barcelona has risen to second place in the league phase table, while Brest has dropped to ninth.
