Mahama asks the church to assist him in fulfilling the expectations of Ghanaians.

John Dramani Mahama, the president-elect, has urged religious leaders nationwide to help him meet the high standards set by Ghanaians.
Mahama stressed that the overwhelming support he garnered in the 2024 elections represents the faith and aspirations of the Ghanaian people in his remarks following the reception of a team from the Assemblies of God Church.

“As I assume this new role, I am aware of the high standards expected of me. I implore all religious leaders to work with me to steer our country towards peace and prosperity,” Mahama said.

After the Electoral Commission declared the newly elected President the victor of the 2024 elections, the delegation, headed by Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, paid him a courtesy call.

Among those present were former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and First Lady Lordina Mahama.
Mahama conveyed his sincere appreciation to the church for its unwavering support during both his personal and political life.

“I sincerely appreciate the church’s steadfast assistance. I’ve been strengthened by your prayers and advice,” Mahama remarked. “I pledge to conduct myself with honesty and integrity while I lead this country.

As we collaborate to create a brighter future for Ghana, I will always be honest.
During his speech, Mahama also asked church leaders to help the nation in the coming challenges and to keep praying for it. “All Ghanaians, including our religious community, must work together and be united on this journey,” he continued.

In his prayer, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam asked God to guide the president-elect, his family, and his staff.
Along with other spiritual resources to help him make decisions, he also gave Mahama a Bible.
